We go ahead understand user segments by analyzing more than 30 visitors’ interviews in the context of which online service they were using, I was able to categorize users into six categories based on their motivation and profile. Based on the necessities of different user categories, we communicated with clients about the directivity of the scenario and offered three task samples.
The purpose of this user test is to support the development of the Audio Guide prototype. The main goal to examine the performance and several features of the Audio Guide was made possible by observing, recording, and analyzing the approaches that participants took in performing the Task Scenarios (see Figure 1).
The user test aims to enhance the Audio Guide prototype. We assess its performance and features by observing, recording, and analyzing how participants engage with Task Scenarios (refer to Figure 1 and 2).
After participants finish their tasks and share feedback, we analyze the data to identify instances where they relied on prior knowledge or required more time to complete actions. This analysis includes observations, recorded conversations, surveys, and participant feedback.
Usability Test
Task 1: Using the audio guide, find any information about Gorky’s The Artist and His Mother.
Go to the painting and listen to the audio provided.
Task 2: Using the audio guide, find an exhibition that you can view today.
Finding:
Legibility of text causes participants to rely on artwork thumbnails
Findings and Recommendations
Recommendation:
Move each artwork stop number, artist’s name, artwork title, and date created on their own lines to enhance legibility and create more space to increase the size of thumbnail images [visual design and information organization].
Finding:
Participants took time to learn and connect the symbols with the actions of the top navigation links and bottom level audio player.
Recommendation:
Refine shapes used in navigation and increase contrast to distinguish content [visual design and organization of navigation links].
This project is in collaboration with Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. We initially compared the content and utility of the Whitney onsite multimedia guide with the web interface Whitney.org, aiming to improve visitor satisfaction and experiences on both platforms, as well as awareness of the content of in-gallery signage/prompts.
Background
The usability test is to support the development of the Audio Guide prototype. Our client's goal is to establish an user-centric way to enhance overall visiting experience by examining the performance and features of the audio guide.
Client Goals
The Whitney Museum of American Art Audio Guide
Collaborated with the director of digital media team and engineers in the Whitney Museum of American Art to test and optimize audio guide experiences on both mobile and audio guide platform. See the usability test report here.

Finding:
Participants rely on prior knowledge of the exhibitions on display to find the correct link on the floors and exhibitions menu list.
Recommendation:
Incorporate filter by an exhibition, filter by floor, and search by stop number functions [content structure and information organization].
Whitney Museum's Audio Guide is another symbol of their excellent efforts to promote their culture, art content, and critical thinking. It is dedicated to showcasing American art and provides a deeper understanding of the artist's vision. The experience of a museum audio guide allows for a deeper connection between the visitors and the artworks. Further analysis is required by conducting different user-testing evaluations to deliver a seamless digital experience.
